For more information on the Digital Garden concept
I think the analogy works best if we think in terms of an Octopus's Garden. Octopuses are famed for the gardens they build out of stones and shells that they find on the sea bed. Our personal websites can be similar. We can collect ideas we like, perform experiments and build up pieces of writing.
I am not sure that this way of doing things online was ruined by the blog, any more than the novel has been ruined by the diary. (In fact I'm pretty sure the latter came first) However, there is a sense of performance to blogging daily. At worst you get repetitive fluff and it's demoralising to deny yourself the chance to build up a skill, flex a muscle. So while I am happy to date posts (not on here but on my 'proper' blog) I do like this concept of scaffolding out a whole load of ideas and experiements in public. Let's see where it goes.
